WHY
Chiara Mu opera esclusivamente nell'ambito di interventi specifici su luogo e/o situazione, utilizzando installazioni, performance e video come modalità preferenziali di lavoro. Si definisce una ‘time-based artist’ che abita in modo specifico spazi e tematiche, creando strategie relazionali tra luogo, oggetti e presenza del corpo, sua e dei visitatori. Il fine è intervenire in modo intimo e provocatorio sulla qualità del tempo di fruizione di chi entra ed esperisce il lavoro, mettendo in discussione il ruolo stesso del visitatore ed il suo posizionarsi rispetto all’opera.

L’obiettivo della mostra era quello di riflettere
in modo specifico sulle relazioni strette
che intercorrono tra corpo e spazio,
tra performance ed architettura.
Ho attuato questa riflessione offrendo ai miei visitatori
la possibilità continua di un rovesciamento:
mettere per una volta sotto le luci della ribalta(!)
il contenitore invece del contenuto;
proporre come oggetti di stupore ed intensità
gli elementi strutturali del luogo
con le infinite tracce poetiche e narrative che mi
hanno offerto, invece di riempire lo spazio
con oggetti/opere/artefatti che usualmente
vengono collocati al centro della visione nei
canonici spazi espositivi
dell’Arte Contemporanea.
Considero dunque questa mostra un mio sentito e
doveroso statement contro la logica della
trasformazione di spazi sensibili in utilissimi
ed azzeranti cubi bianchi e ringrazio ancor di più
Cristina Dinello Cobianchi/AlbumArte e
Maria Rosa Sossai per avermi consentito una tale
meravigliosa possibilità.
Chiara Mu Chiara Mu works mainly in the context of site-specific and/or situation-specific interventions, using installations, performances and video as main medium. She defines herself a ‘time-based artist’ who inhabits spaces and topics, creating relational strategies between the place, the objects and the body’s presence, both hers and of the viewers. Her goal is to define intimately – and sometimes provocatively – the quality of the time that viewers spend in perceiving the work, questioning the very essence of the spectatorship’s role.

The aim of the exhibition was to explore the close relationships that exist between body and space, performance and architecture. I brought this to my viewers’ attention by offering them the chance of reversing their approach to space: I asked them for once to put “under the spot-light” the container instead of the content. I proposed the structural elements of AlbumArte’s space as aesthetical objects of wonder and intensity, with all the endless trails of poetic narrative they offered me. I did not fill the space with objects / works / artefacts which are usually placed in vision in the “canonical” contemporary art exhibitions.
I consider this exhibition my heartfelt statement against the logic of reducing sensitive spaces full of history and identity into useful and annihilating white cubes, thanking Cristina Dinello Cobianchi / AlbumArte and Maria Rosa Sossai even more for allowing me such a wonderful opportunity.
